Upgrading my WiFi access point's firmware through three major releases.

Browser UI displays a "do not press the back button or close this window" message.

Think "I'd better keep an eye on this tab", and drag it out of Safari into its own window.

Instead of dragging out, when I let go it just disappears.

@masto Stuck between monitors? When I drag safari windows and I see 99% of the window on screen 2 I let go.. but it only matters where the cursor was when I let go, and there can be a tiny sliver of the window left somewhere obnoxious on the other screen (below the dock), and that's where it went

@david It's quite possible that something like that happened. I do have two monitors.

I tried to find it with cmd-` and Exposé but had no luck. Some time later I came back to my computer after display sleep had activated, and there was a mysterious Safari window with the login page to my AP. So whatever dimension it had fallen into, it came back.

I just wonder if it saw beans.
