Looking for suggestions on a self-hosted home security camera system. Not interested in anything "cloud".

Budget: $3,000 USD. I already have storage servers running #HardenedBSD that support NFS, SMB/CIFS, and iSCSI.

I'd like to access the video feed via a web browser, VLC, and/or an Android app. No need for exposing to the public, can be accessed via VPN or via local connection.

@lattera I use Shinobi shinobi.video/ it is javascript based.. so.. yeah, but it works pretty well, even with cameras that are nominally 'cloud' (pretty much all of them speak RTSP, and ONVIF)

@david for the camera side, Reolink has a number of cameras with ONVIF and RTMP support, as well as local recording options. They do have a cloud thing, but you don't have to use it and it is not critical path in any way for the cameras. We have a number of the RLC511-WA and Duo (dual lens) wifi. The 511 is discontinued, but I believe replaced with the RLC-510WA.
