I discovered (and reread) my MA thesis prospectus while looking for some books for class on Thursday.
It was, in a word, "hot garbage." I did not know how to write or explain myself concisely or explicate arguments. And look at me now! I still don't know how to do those things 😂
(I mean, I do know how to do those things quite well now. But I am always striving for improvement. Self-deprecating humor is my style.)
The bassoon is an instrument that can be considered a result of consistent evolution and sudden revolution. This is most clearly seen in the two extant bassoons employed in the world today. However, these bassoons have been engaged in a cultural battle for dominance in the 20th Century, which has all but removed the evolutionarily-developed bassoon from collective consciousness. This shift underscores the globalization of Western art music and the ideas of what music “should” sound like.
